  • I cannot affort an attorney. How do I ask for an attorney at no cost?
    • 1. Identify where to file your paperwork to request an attorney at no cost.
    • 2. Fill out the correct paperwork.
      • * For Adults:  JDF 208 - Request for a State Paid Professional.

        * For a JuvenileJDF 219 - Juvenile Delinquency Application for Public Defender.

        * There is no filing fee for either form.

         

    • 3. Wait for an answer from the court.
      • * After you file your Application with the public defender, the public defender will review the information you put in your application and decide whether you qualify to have an attorney at no cost based on your financial situation. After receiving the public defender's initial findingregarding whether you qualify, the court will review your application and issue an order granting or denying your request for appointment of a public defender.
